Shoe choice for leg 6. Your Walshes won't last long on the roads towards the end of this stage. I wore Mizuno Wave Harriers last year: they provided enough grip everywhere except the descent down the field to the footbridge by the waterfall (132280).

OK this is a first for me and got leg 5. any advice please? thinking of going to recce it on Sunday
    Today 04:30 PM

    Leg5 can be tricky,
    starts on sloppy fell,muddy fields/path,muddy climb,good grass
    descent,tarmac climb,tricky following of way through yards/gardens/paths
with loose dogs, tracks to muddy fields, tarmac descent, cobbled big climb, muddy slippy track descent, muddy climb, fast track running,
muddy fields then about mile and half tarmac undulating finishing with a narrow ginnel to finish, you do not exchange a batton at finish.
hope that helps, you need to recce as its easy to get lost.

hee, hee, i'm glad other clubs do that to their runners as well!

I'm down for leg 6, am doing a group reccie on sunday but i don't doubt that it'll change on the day. I was down for this leg last year and ended up being swapped to Leg 2 with less than 24h notice. If that weren't bad enough, i was also promoted to the A-team

From what i remember of Leg 6, it's mostly good going but there are a couple of really sludgy bits near to field/stile corners. I'm wearing Mudclaws, but then they don't really bother me to run on tarmac in.

Thanks for the advice on Leg 6 guys - I think I'll go with worn down Mudclaws...

Unfortunately as we're coming over 200 miles to the event it means a recce on Saturday afternoon followed by the race on Sunday

    At least I get a lie-in

Just reccied that this morning. It was very muddy and slippery in parts.

    True.

It just seemed more so than what I remember of last year

More than last year? When I reccied leg 6 on the Saturday last year parts of it were under water (literally in the case of the footbridge just before Thornhill Beck Road at 152240). I'm doing leg 1 this year. Any comments on that leg?
