Thread: Today's poet

    Re: Today's poet

    A Dream Pang

I had withdrawn in forest, and my song
    Was swallowed up in leaves that blew away;
And to the forest edge you came one day
(This was my dream) and looked and pondered long,
But did not enter, though the wish was strong:
You shook your pensive head as who should say,
‘I dare not—too far in his footsteps stray—
He must seek me would he undo the wrong.

Not far, but near, I stood and saw it all
    Behind low boughs the trees let down outside;
And the sweet pang it cost me not to call
And tell you that I saw does still abide.
But ’tis not true that thus I dwelt aloof,
For the wood wakes, and you are here for proof.

Freckle,I don't think you should feel it self indulgent writing verse that comes from within. It is one of the purest and honest forms of expression which takes bravery as you are prepared to be emotionally naked in front of your peers. It is something that should be praised, encouraged and congratulated. You should be proud of your work as you are a poet. On a personal note i find it therapeutic.

Good point Tri-mind. I find my artwork therapuetic and am just chuffed to bits that some people like it enough to buy it or just enjoy looking at it. It is all about communication of ideas and thoughts. Self-expression. I think poetry is a much scarier thing to share than artwork though, I've always shied away from writing any until this thread.

    Re: Today's poet

as they say in monty python...and now for something completely different...well a bit of poetry....

    Between us

Between us now and here -
    Two thrown together
Who are not wont to wear
    Life's flushest feather -
Who see the scenes slide past,
    The daytimes dimming fast,
Let there be truth at last,
    Even if despair.

    So thoroughly and long
    Have you now known me,
So real in faith and strong
    Have I now shown me,
    That nothing needs disguise
    Further in any wise,
    Or asks or justifies
    A guarded tongue.

    Face unto face, then, say,
    Eyes mine own meeting,
    Is your heart far away,
    Or with mine beating?
When false things are brought low,
And swift things have grown slow,
    Feigning like froth shall go,
    Faith be for aye.

    Thomas Hardy
