    Leisure

WHAT is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?—

No time to stand beneath the boughs,
And stare as long as sheep and cows:
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass:
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night:
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance:
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began? A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

Tell her that Santa is a fell runner so would know if she had been typing tonight instead of being in bed. Worth a shot.

Eee. What a good Mum you are.

I'm going to pinch a choccy off the tree now my two are snoring.

What a bad Dad I am!

That's a damn good idea! me too!

    Rudolph is wearing walshes

    Picture this, its Xmas eve,
and HHH is dressed as auld santa
    rudolph curses
    "I didn't bring my headtorch"
    "never mind" says Harry
    "there is always the banter"

    with Hes, DT, OW,
Mossy, Tri-mind X runner et al
and the little un at the back
if we are quick we'll make it up skiddaw
and return in time to fill ol' santa's sack

    with plath, hughes, pablo
and a hefty dose of good ol cummings
    we'll just have time
    to catch merry still training
and squeeze an extra run in

    b4 collapsing in a heap,
    just in time to hear
    Mr Wootton recite our favourite
    W.H. Auden's "Lullaby" *
    softly in our ears....

as basil brush would say Boom Boom....

(feel free to amend its a work in progress like!!!!)

damn i just checked the choco situaton out..they have all been snaffled!

I'll have to run next year now I pretend to know all about it. Sounds like a great race. I've never races in the North East before.
Well HHH - there's 3 or 4 cheviot races definitely worth the journey, and NFR host a good race. I think you're one for the short and sharp up & down job? Cheviot Summit might suit you well in late spring.
As for JCC - might best mate in the 6th form got me '10 years in an open neck shirt' book for my 18th - I have long since lost it, and Amazon are asking about 60 quid when I last looked.
Saw him for old time's sake about 3 years ago. I always liked how he cited the racing commentator Peter? O'Sullivan as a major influence - it's apparent in his delivery.

    my favourite (at least today)

    Good morning all!

    Misletoe
    Walter de la mare

    Sitting under the mistletoe
    (Pale green, fairy mistletoe),
    One last candle burning low,
    All the sleepy dancers gone,
    Just one candle burning on,
    Shadows lurking everywhere:
Someone came, and kissed me there.

Tired I was; my head would go
    Nodding under the mistletoe
    (Pale green, fairy mistletoe)
No footsteps came, no voice, but only,
Just as I sat there, sleepy, lonely,
Stooped in the still and shadowy air
Lips unseen - and kissed me there.

Helloooo! Have just managed to read a couple recent posts. It is all so Christmassy and making me miss the fells, running and you lot. It is too hot and far too busy to even attempt a jog here. It is very exciting though and I am keeping a haiku diary. I will type a few out. Freckle, loved the Walter de la Mare.
