    Wansfell Race - Parking

I'm afraid that parking at the usual pace at the top of Stockghyll lane is a bit treacherous to get to, so can runners please park in town instead. Ambitious 4 x 4 drivers might want to give it a go!! Registration will be in the Lakes Runner shop and cafe. The race route will be unchanged - start in town and finish at Kelsick. The race will start 15 mins later than planned (a 12.15) so everyone can get parked and sorted. Can you please pass this on to anyone you know who may not have got the message.

    Cheers
    Dan

They're never boring these little out and backs are they! Thanks to the organisers, marshalls and the guy who plowed the car park for us. I've never run on snow before but the wet stuff today was just sapping my energy, really glad i chose to wear the Walshes they were probably the best shoe for the conditions as the ground wasn't frozen hard.

The descent was very tricky but soft snow is forgiving, i opted for a technique of striding out further than normal on the basis that the snow would absorb the extra speed as i landed. Lots of people were going carefully but i found the leaping method to be unbelievably fast and must have made up 10 places on the descent, it doesn't however work in drifts that are thigh deep and i had a spectacular fall at full speed and got snow in my eye which slowed me and hurt . My descent method was exhausting, i don't think i've ever been so f***ed on any descent, constantly having to spring up and lift the leading leg high up meant i kept having to tuck back in with the pack and regain my breath and composure. It was a total rush though and i wonder if any of the photos have got my gargoyle-esque grimace on as i crossed the line. Managed to do it in 29.54 or something which was ahead of my estimated time, just. Nice one to Rob Jebb who showed them what Yorkshire folk are made of and finished a minute in front . Glad i chose to do this, probably be back in '10, eveningall .

Tried really hard to be last but wasn't, sorry I couldn't stay afterwards, got chased off by the traffic warden......'no I couldn't put more money in, there are other people wanting to use this space'!
Well done organisers, marshalls and spectators, a great way to celebrate the day after boxing day!

Bit of a long shot but ...

    Lost Sunday 27th December.

Either (most likely): Around the Toilet Block at Thirlmere car park (Helvellyn/east side of road. NY 318 169) around 9-10AM,

    or:

a couple of hours later in Ambleside before Wansfell Race.

very nice, distinctive pale blue compact camera with lots of pics of Sunrise run up Helvellyn on it. Much missed.
