Let me know if you're not working. Can't do any earlier: heading up there after dropping the missus off at work.

    Cheers Penguin, same to you.
Aye deffo working mate. Watch out for the razor snow up there mate! I recommend long socks, not the gay compression ones

Got to Downham - no map. Great start. Started running the route from memory, but the lane part seemed to be going on forever so cut off towards the hill earlier, as my Walshes were lethal on the frosty/icy lanes. Cut sideways on the lower part of the hill before pivking up the PC climb towards the Scout Cairn.

Climbing up was a chore as my chest is still not right from XOTF and breathing was very hard. Also, sinking in the snow up to anywhere between the ankles and knee was a bit tough too.

On the top the wind was howling and there were some fantastic ice/snow patterns blown into the grass. As I neared the Big End end of Pendle, the snow seemed to be starting again and visibility was very poor. At this point I decided to just go to the Trig and then head back down on the home stretch of the Pendle Cloughs route. It was great fun up there, but although I had a rucksack full of survival stuff, I just thought it would be a bit dodgy continuing on my own.

On the walker's path back down, each step went into the knee, and dragging the leg out against the hard-packed snow was like scraping your shin along the edge of a brick wall. Was seriously wondering what the possibility of an avalanche on Pendle was (), before finding a lovely long, smooth stretch of snow pointing downhill which I just sat on and slid down on my a*se!! Great fun! At this lower level I ran to meet the walker's path as it finally cut down to head towards the road.

Ended up a lovely run albeit shorter than planned. A nice latte in front of the fire in the Post Office tea shop was just what the doctor ordered.

Then picked up a new pair of shades from Complete Runner and had a chat with the young Mr Baistow who served me.

First report on the Rab Momentum: excellent bit of kit. Hood has a cord which ties it to your head like a cap so even in the really strong winds it didn't come off. Despite these winds I was warm and couldn't feel it cutting through the fabric. Also, at the end, there was hardly any moisture at all insie the jacket. Love it. Even the (baby-poo) green colour.

    Re: Care to join me?

I'll be having another attempt at the Pendle Cloughs route on Sunday. 0800, Downham, by the bridge at the bottom. I'll have me map this time.

    Any takers?
