    Re: Today's poet

Just been having a trawl through some of the latest posts. There has been some lovely stuff and I like the ones about the Chinese Lanterns. I saw a flotilla of them on New Year's eve 2003 in Thailand...amazing. I sometimes find them up the lane from where I live as they get let off at weddings up at Swinton Castle. Anyway....welcome to to OneOff...brilliant poem! I'm in Shimla and it is freezing but the snowcapped Himalayas are looking amazing.

Last days in Varanasi were emotionally and physically exhausting but what an incredible place. Am already planning a trip back to do some meditation and drawing.

    city of the dead
    bodies burn on the pyres
    dogs sleep in the ash

    first day of the year
    my melancholy creeps
    like mist from the river

    this river city
    walking the chaotic streets
    just one more lost soul

Another train journey from hell to get here but a family from Punjab really saved it from being purgatory.

    small boy on the train
    my bird for his lotus
    origami swap

    after the chaos
peacocks strut in lush green fields
    women tending rice

off for brekkie now....hope you all have a good day!x

THAT crazed girl improvising her music.
Her poetry, dancing upon the shore,

Her soul in division from itself
Climbing, falling She knew not where,
Hiding amid the cargo of a steamship,
Her knee-cap broken, that girl I declare
A beautiful lofty thing, or a thing
    Heroically lost, heroically found.

    No matter what disaster occurred
She stood in desperate music wound,
Wound, wound, and she made in her triumph
Where the bales and the baskets lay
    No common intelligible sound
But sang, 'O sea-starved, hungry sea.'

The sea a dim and distant memory

A wooden bird of the night
sits on your desk, a reminder
    of a lighter time
    Down a motorway or two,
    a hedgehog’s iron spikes
    permeate sad nets
imprinting a face on my mind.
    Such woeful and wonderful times
    for two betwixt
    an anonymous sea
Time passes, and after much tears
    and realignment,
    sooner, than YOU-I think
These little pals will share a hearth,
    each and every night,
    retiring from their travails
and think back to what fortitude
    brought them to the warm
    and glowing embers,
the sea a dim and distant memory.
