Ha ha! Hi there Merry, I did enjoy my hols although I need one to get over it! India is intense to say the least but I have come back alive and well with plenty of food for thought and enjoying the silence that is currently ringing in my ears in my wee cottage.

Hi Hes, that's always the case with hols, but food for thought and silence soothes the soul

It fancies it sees an oasis; the mirage
Greenly reflected in each lonely cornea,
And, so together we stumbled so clumsily
Into lust, But pushing his urgent limbs away
I fought to regain my body's poise till he cried
I love you, you've no need to be afraid of me.
When at last he left, scolded, sent away, alone
On the white desert of my sheets I wondered if
I should have fought at all to save this dubious
Asset, my aloneness, my terrible aloneness.
Hes - you've been putting up some absolute gems here. You've brought back much more than the usual duty-free!
ANd I might have to introduce 'Wassailing' to the good folk of Newcastle - though there's a chance that no-one will notice!

    Lullaby

    arise
    calmly to this night
to the hour of angels and fairies
    listen

    arise
let the spirits take hold of you
    go into a mysterious dream
    listen

    there is silence
    silence
    only silence
    hushed silence
    whispering silence
    no, not only silence
    music with silence
    chords of the golden lute
    crowning the silence

    arise
calmly to this night discover what you know not
    listen
    listen
    and listen

Cheers OW! I think a little wassailing in Newcastle would be a good thing...you could always miss out the fruit tree part and concentrate on the noise and drink, it works for me!

I'm really glad that you like Kamala Das too. I am going to have to restrain myself and not post the entire book. I've got an anthology from Tamil Nadu too so I'll post one of those next next.

    Near and Far

    I feel
    Nearness
    When I feel
    The colour of
    Your silence
    Distance
    When I savour not
    The smell of
    Your words.
