The best way to view the 3 peaks is as three seperate hill races with a five mile largely downhill sprint thrown in the middle. In actual fact though it has 9 easily identifiable but less easily run components ---->

A mainly runnable but toughish 3 mile 1800 foot climb

A super fast 2 mile descent

Another 3 miles of muddy up and downy bits

5 miles of fast running, mostly downhill or flat

A nightmarish 1.5 mile 1800 foot climb over spongy, tussocky grass with the final 500 feet being a cliff crawl.

A superb hang on to your holly hocks, chocks away 1.5 mile descent

A bastard 3 mile 1800 foot slabfest of a climb (easy when your legs are fresh but... they won't be)

A 5 mile descent to Horton that would normally be fast but that everyone runs in slow mo.... often in cramp ridden agony

A beer tent at the finish
