    Re: Todays Bike Ride

I was out on the bike again yesterday, roadbike... First time on a bike since some playing with the crosser at the beginning of October...

It was good, easy paced, just under two hours, nice undulating route around Stirling... Even the rain held off for most of it and... The new neoprene overshoes and the incredibly flash (and expensive, even in the sale) new winter jacket did the job, as I wasn't cold at all and it was only just above freezing First 50 odd kms of the year done

Don't think I can ride on the track yet or off road though, as my arm is still not there yet. Good enough to control a road bike but nothing more challengeing should be thrown at it really for now... Getting there though

Planning to seriously race the bike this coming season and only run on the fells once a week and not race... Fingers crossed things will work out

We are rapidly running out of good cafes around here. No stops and I have just cleaned my bike and waxed it . A lovely day today, even sunny
    Good stuff Dazza.
As for me, took my life in my hands today and went out with one of the local clubs. Spent 4hrs and 70 hilly miles with my tongue nailed firmly to the handlebars as I hung on to the back of the bunch. Finally the elastic snapped about 10 miles from home as the chain gang kicked on up a teeny rise and I was spat out the back Still, all that pain, I reckon it must have been good for me

ah the old elastic went bang eh
its just not fair when that happens. Good effort though mate. Maybe you needed Hann with you for encouragement.

A trick when your about to snap is to down one of those cans of coca cola and eat three or four lumps of sugar.
Just carry a few odinary sachets of sugar and even if you drink water and bang a few of those down you its amazing how quickly they work.

    other than that
get off your bike and do a headstand , the blood will run to your head and you will be good for another 20 miles.
The tips i give this forum.

The stuff has many medcinal uses when I kayaked and went down to the watersports centre at Nottingham, the local advice was to drink a bottle before to avoid 'Trent belly'

    Re: Todays Bike Ride

I used Coac Cola for cleaning the rust of my rims in the past, worked a treat!

I shall bear that headstand advice in mind, next time I get tired on the bike Daz...

I usually just use it for recovery after a hard race or ride...

    Re: Todays Bike Ride

Apparently the medical benefits of traditional Coke (not the fat free, caffeine reduce, lime flavour etc) were discovered by accident but it is used a lot in the States to help geriatrics get over the effects of anasthesia (though does not improve spelling).
Triathletes have used it for years after open water swimming to avoid 'Trent belly' and it does appear to work. Perhaps it would be worth considering keeping some in the car/tent for after a long day in the fells drinking water from streams etc.
Note of caution, don't try adding rehydration salts or energy powder to the can; you won't have much Coke left to drink!
