    Thats the stuff...although, on further googling mat grass seems to be alot thinner...but this cotton grass stuff, ive never seen this grass in question to have any cotton like flowers on it.

    Al there's a few different but similarly looking 'grasses'. This web site is "really really useful" ---> Peatlands

    I reckon it could be any of the following:

    Black Bog Rush
    Deer Grass or Deer Sedge
    Common Cottongrass
    Hare's Tail Cottongrass

    I now feel a total bog grass expert

    I think black bog rush is the winner - actually now im not so sure.

    Looking at deer sedge...i remember seeing that in the past, but always thought i was just the ordinary stuff that had been eaten/hadnt grown properly.

    Wow, how did i ever go out on the fells and never previously pay any attention to the grass...my, it puts another dimention onto our hobby!
