Aye, a bit of everything: 2 climbs that aren't too challenging (well, there's worse on the same hill!); bit of boggy, tussocky ground; lovely descent; cracking pub at end!

If you're a fit runner, you should be able to do it (not saying it'll be easy mind).

Why not try and get on a recce - there'll be quite a few going out this weekend? Where are you based? What's your background?

Aye, I agree with Softies sentiments above, I wouldn't say its too hard, you'll love it!

If your used to running say a half marathon distance, this would be a nice one to start with, barring the 2 climbs, its all really fast runnable stuff

BTW are you running this SS, or is it HPM weekend?

HPM wkend. Was idly thinking I might finish HPM, then make it back for HTOP! Given snow (and own considerable physical limitations), this ain't gonna happen. Can't say I was entirely serious mind...

Thanks all - in terms of fitness no problem, my background is ahem er ... road running and I'm also a triathlete.

I was thinking more of the navigation and how difficult that would be. Doubt I will get the chance to reccie the route I'm afraid.

Navigation is pretty good unless the clag is down. Most of the time you'll be in sight of other runners but if things get too spaced out you might have one or two worrying moments. As fell races go it's not too hard but has all the right ingredients - a big first climb that is annoyingly runnable, a long long fast descent disecting Pendle along its whole length, a knackering but shortish second climb, a hop across the top to a bonkers brain off brakes off descent followed by a nice run in. Plenty of bogs on top if a thaw sets in. What more could you ask for

    Aye you'll be fine then.

There is always a path/trod to follow on the Half tour, and there will be plenty of runners to follow probably.

Thanks all for the advice, I'll get my application off today as there's only a few days to closing.

Enjoy yourself. I still manage to get lost between CPs 1&2 if I daydream, despite the fact this is the only hill I ever run on. You'll probably be alright following someone else tho'.

Btw, has anyone warned you of the fell-running tradition of first-timers wearing fancy dress and getting the drinks in at the end? No?
