Today's poet

[freckle]

Life is a bit like
a rollercoaster, you're up
then you're down, then you're....

Yesterday between printmaking classes I had the most lovely run up onto the moors:

the sinking sun glows
snow churned to soft buttermilk
blue shadows lengthen

Then today I have been scared stiff driving to drop car off and biking back. Another spill and another bruise. I am so sick of black ice.

windy road glistens
the sun not yet high enough
to melt the danger

I really like this, I don't understand every line but the general gist is very thought provoking.

I got it as an exam question once Hes so think how I felt


Gwendolyn used to write a lot about the lack of prospects for young black people particularly around the "projects" area of Chicago. She wants to help them and is not sure how as she is just a poet with no practical skills to offer.
(Or at least that's what I put in my exam if I remember correctly )

You said it Freckle!!! I do hope you are not too stressed and inconvenienced by your sudden lack of fridge and washing machine. Thank goodness you and the little Freckles are ok. Ohhh...I think we need some better luck. I am hopeful some is round the corner. Sending you a big hug.x

Good to have the insight Alf. That sounds like a good answer too. I travelled all over Asia and felt quite helpless when faced with child poverty and prostitution and wondered what I, as an artist, could offer but I then worked for a children's charity in Peru for a few months and have done quite a bit of fund raising and charity work for various kids charities since and I also teach children now and again so I can relate to the poet's sentiment.

it was quiet on here last night!...a monday thing?

freckle thought she'd have an early night
but woke up with a terrible fright
smoke alarms and knackered fridge
a sponteously combusting washing machine
and flooded kitchen
not to worry freckles and mini freckles all OK
and have survived to live another day
backyard now resembles step toe and son
flippin eck i could do with a good run!

not very good verse but you kinda get the picture!

Yikes...good think it wasn't the flat. the lady downstairs would've had a soaking!

Glad to hear noone was hurt. Must fix my smoke alarm.

Awww. Skype is brilliant, it makes the distance seem irrelevant and you can see each other via webcam. I hope the person closes the gap again soon.
