good morrow all here you go frecks.

For the House Sparrow, in Decline

Your numbers fall and its tempting to think
you're deserting our suburbs and estates
like your cousins at Pompeii; that when you return
to bathe in dust and build your nests again
in a roofless world where no one hears your cheeps,
    only a starling's modem mimicry
will remind you of how you once supplied
the incidental music of our lives.

Now there's an idea! My friend had a visit to her farm by a fireman called Conrad and was so impressed, she named a sheep after him. Alas, I think he became lamb chops...the sheep, not the fireman!

As my disgruntled male friend said to me 'what is all the fuss about firemen? they just sit about drinking tea and watching telly most of the time'. I pointed out the sliding down poles and rescuing people from fires part but he wasn't impressed. I think he may have lost a lady to a uniformed man at some point. I am blathering, better do some work.

Oh how poignant NDubya, what a great choice. I love watching sparrows dust bathing and am sad that they are in decline.

Never mind training with Dark Peak
    Come to Settle Harriers instead
    They're all really very friendly
And they won't think you a freak

But on the fell be warned
    They'll gallop on ahead
    Usually the back of beyond
And leave slow newcomers for dead

That made me laugh. It is now one of my life's ambitions to impress someone enough that they name a sheep after me!

DT's always asking what my middle name is; so this week it is Harry Herdswick Howgill.

I'm sure your disgruntled freind wouldn't turn down a lady in uniform, so it works both ways!

Spring! Not round here it isn't yet. We've had a whole load of snow this morning, some of the biggest soggiest snow flakes I've ever seen. It looked like a proper cotton wool film effect!

That is tonight's job sorted then. I'll not be moping around in my winter mood, I'll be on the quest for sprightly Spring poetry.

    Have a good day everyone.
