    Re: Today's poet

    A little melancholy this selection of mine today.

    Neutral Tones

    We stood by a pond that winter day,
    And the sun was white, as though chidden of God,
    And a few leaves lay on the starving sod,
    --They had fallen from an ash, and were gray.

    Your eyes on me were as eyes that rove
    Over tedious riddles solved years ago;
    And some words played between us to and fro--
    On which lost the more by our love.

    The smile on your mouth was the deadest thing
    Alive enough to have strength to die;
    And a grin of bitterness swept thereby
    Like an ominous bird a-wing....

    Since then, keen lessons that love deceives,
    And wrings with wrong, have shaped to me
    Your face, and the God-curst sun, and a tree,
    And a pond edged with grayish leaves.

    Thomas Hardy

    Nice choice THomas Hardy is such a brilliant poet, funny I hadn't until recently even realised that he wrote poetry

    it is at moments after I have dreamed by E. E. Cummings

    it is at moments after i have dreamed
    of the rare entertainment of your eyes,
    when(being fool to fancy)i have deemed

    with your peculiar mouth my heart made wise;
    at moments when the glassy darkness holds

    the genuine apparition of your smile
    (it was through tears always)and silence moulds
    such strangeness as was mine a little while;

    moments when my once more illustrious arms
    are filled with fascination,when my breast
    wears the intolerant brightness of your charms:

    one pierced moment whiter than the rest

    -turning from the tremendous lie of sleep
    i watch the roses of the day grow deep.

    Alf, that was lovely. Melancholy indeed but befitting of this rainy grey day. I've just spent the afternoon having my motorbike tinkered with and wish to write a ditty for the brilliant mechanic in Bedale.

    My speedo and fuses were bust
    and a bike with good lights is a must
    so to Dawkins I wended
    and the mechanic he mended
    while I stood there looking non-plussed

    I'm not winning any prizes with that one but I am grateful that he always treats me really well and is so helpful.

    I know you are a fan of butterflies but hadn't realised you had based a print on this poem. I read a selection of spring poetry this morning and this one just stood out.

    Tomorrow I will be wending my way round the Noonstone course. Wending doesn't imply speed to me so that should be about right

    I saw the physio again today and it turns out I've damaged a nerve in my foot which is causing the pins and needles in my heel. Apparently there isn't much fat on the bottom of my heel which normally acts as a shock absorber. So tonight it's chips, choccy and Chardonnay for genuine recouperation purposes!

    My love is true.

    My love is true,
    Deep and endless,
    It's only for you,
    Passions flame,
    That never dies,
    It's you i want,
    To see when i rise,
    Because we are one,
    Our souls are eternal,
    And i can't think of,
    Anything more beautiful,
    Than forever with you,
    My love.
