    Hi all

    I just got a really nice reply back, the team managing this have had a few offers from Dufton but nothing concrete yet. I think we should decide on the following:

    i) who would like to accompany Mr Armitage on part of his walk?

    ii) can we organise a venue for the poetry reading and possibly accomodation pretty sharpish?

    Neil I would be pleased if you went ahead and communicated with the team.

    I could commit to one day and an overnight stay (ie the pub) at this stage which would mean part of the walk....it might be nice if a few of us offer to put our names down for the walk or indeed some of us might want to have a little trot out to meet him? i think in the first instance tho it would be good to get the venue and if poss accomodation sorted.

    matt if you look at the link i put on the other day to the armitage website it gives the dates etc of when he is walking. we were hoping to organise a venue for him to read at, possibly accomodation and then accompany him on part of his walk. i think even if some of us just go the reading the next day we could all go for a trot out or something.....just need to co-ordinate it all

    Good luck to all those this weekend who undertaking various marathon efforts!...Stolly I think this is one of your favourites...

    If
    Rudyard Kipling

    If you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
    If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;
    If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
    Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
    Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
    And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

    If you can dream - and not make dreams your master,
    If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
    If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
    If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
    Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

    If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
    And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breath a word about your loss;
    If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
    And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them:

    "Hold on!" If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
    If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
    If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
    Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
    And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

    Hello all

    Looks this is really going to happen cool. I will happily do a walk or jog out, I'm quite like the idea of a jog out from Dufton and meeting him and maybe walking back into Dufton. I'm sure lots of us would like to do this.
    thanks for the PM's chaps sorry i'm a bit useless responding at mo.

    That sounds like a fab idea, can all who would like to do that (jog out and walk back with him) let me know via this thread (or pm)....Neil given that you seem to know the area (along with Harry and Hes i think) do you want to liaise with the armitage lot about this one directly ( if I did it, it would be a bit like the blind leading the blind!)....let me know so i don't dupliacte the communication!

    Ooooo its so exciting....its gonna be fun! i can just tell...
