I will be out and about supporting the wife.
Planning to be in various places, so hope to see some of you galloping by.![]()
Bit late - but I'll be there as well!
Look forward to meeting some of you there
Well done to Mrs BGsec, cracking pace around an off-roader.
I echo that it was a good day for it, not cold and little wind. I had a good round, steady along rather than all out and happy to push under 4:20. Its a great little route and good for a beginner or an experienced campaigner. Hope somebody else "adopts" it for future years.
It was good to be there, all be it in a more passive capacity than usual. Well done to all of you who finished in impressive times in good conditions (although it was a bit cold for those of us standing around). I enjoyed the novelty of manning the Waddy Lathe checkpoint (~9 miles) on the short route. We had 34 customers. The last ones came through around 11:30 after 3.5 hours on the hoof enjoying the views and a good gas.
On our return to base, as we turned in to the road to the school I thought of the Fellsman as we gave way to a runner on his final 50 yards to the finish. I was amazed how many runners were already finished in the hall and not even 4 hours had elapsed. Whippets, the lot o' ya!! And what about the length of the dinner queue? You runners, do you think of nothing but your stomachs?
Many thanks to John Sparshatt for organising such an amazing event for 18 years. I was sad to hear of the event's demise unless someone else takes over responsibility. Let's hope someone does have the time and inclination.
Really enjoyed this, my first one ever and more than happy to finish in 5.28 (I am true to my name). Nice to see Mountain Goatess, sorry I had to run off for the bus and miss the chilli but had eaten more than enough cake all day.
My second LDWA event and this one was as expertly organised as the first.
Great weather and competition. Tough course at the end when my legs had gone! Feel damn sore today!
Just one thing to note:
On the track down to Bradley Res. I noticed two runners, one male and one female (who both ended up doing under 3:45hrs) who cut the corner by going across the moor while the runners right in front of them and those behind them stuck to the path. They gained quite a bit from this short-cut. What is the protocol in these LDWA events: should you stick to the prescribed route all the time even if a short-cut would be quicker or is it every man for himself?
Interested in your responses.
