Not that brave. All I had to do was head SE to get back to the path before going over the edge into Edale.
What I have found in clag is that my mind when tired is not tuned in to 25000
maps and I over-estimate how far I've gone. I did several years of orienteering in Cyprus on 10000 and 15000 maps and those scales seem to have stuck. Not much clag in Cyprus either.

this thread seems very quiet despite it's impending running. Hope to get out for one more recce back end of week to check the snow on the "shortcuts"

If any one is going just to watch and would like to help out there are still a few spots open.

Ian, do you think there'll still be snow by the weekend? I've started to take an interest in the weather forecast for the Edale area and it looks like it'll be pretty warm this week (relatively speaking). Also, is there usually a marquee or something at the start where I could dump a bag? The drive from Ilkley is hideous so I'm going to come on the bike if at all possible.

You can leave a bag in the Village hall(registration) or you can put it in my car as long as you don't finish in under 3.50

    Forgot to answer snow question.

Last week there was plenty on the Kinder side, not too much around mam tor but a bit going up Brown Knoll. It's been pretty warmish and sunny so more will have gone. The short cuts had lots of deep snow in them midweek.. The rim path also had drifts across the path but these were well trod down. I'll update later after my trot round.

Ta....could do to know if a KD will be worth an attempt if the lakes visit isn't a go-er (for the week after Edale though!)

That would be extremely helpful; I'll PM you nearer the time if that's OK? I don't think there's much chance of me finishing in under 4 hours so don't worry about that - and if I should fall in a bog on Brown Knoll never to be seen again you'll have yourself a nice set of leathers!

Regarding the route - off Lose Hill is the idea to get to the first wall/fence after the summit then take a half-left down to a level path that cuts out Back Tor?

Yes - and it's normally marshalled and flagged.
