    Al, your front will no doubt be 53/39 and the Ribble Sportive may be somthing like 13-26. Count the teeth on the big & little sprocket.

    You are correct....13-26.....didnt count the front....i'd just lose count repeatedly.


    Is 13-26 a standard, 'in the middle' groupset? (it is a groupset isnt it?)

    13-26 is aimed at the 'Sportive' events with hills as a 39/26 bottom gear should see somebody with good fitness over most hills. A race or 'tight' block is 11-21 so geared higher for flat/downhill speed.

    I have a 12/27 on my training bike

    Mind, I regularly have to climb walls with it... so I have an excuse...
