Cheers Freckle. By the way I am getting very envious of everybody doing the AW on Saturday, especially given the weather forecast. Good luck!

The Old Men Admiring Themselves in the Water

I HEARD the old, old men say,
    "Everything alters,
And one by one we drop away."
They had hands like claws, and their knees
Were twisted like the old thorn trees
    By the waters.
I heard the old, old men say,
    "All that's beautiful drifts away
    Like the waters."

    William Butler Yeats

Love the description of the knees (probably a bit close to home )

I like this O.O.P. - favourite line being 'Potential, now kinetic' - smart!

That initial downhill serction is my favoiurite section in a race and my favourite races are the up-and-down real rollercoasters as described below. Hope you recognise this

Gosh, I love this. So much energy, punchy and really sums up a good fell run.

Nice choice Alf. I really like Yeats and yet I've managed to miss this before. Glad that you brought it to our attention. My knees are letting me down badly just now and I am feeling rather old.

Really must get on with some work but I wrote a couple haiku today whilst waiting by the river for the tracking to be done on my car!

    buried in the grass
small bundle of sun and sky
    feline-torn bluetit

    proud parents float by
    a raft of ducklings follow
    with their mother's eyes

I love the bundle of sun and sky image. Shame it got moggie-mauled.

Very good couple of Haiku there Hes that complement each other.
I probably would have put "small bundle of yellow and blue" and that's why I can't write good poetry (but I can recognise it )

Good luck to all Fell Poets running at Anni Waltz tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to loads of Lakeland inspired verse
