I am doing the 'namby pamby' 1/2 too... it didn't feel very namby pamby last year I have to say - respect to those of you who can do the long one! One day I will!

This is the thread from last year - some route advice here too. http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/showt...tre-Peaks-race

Haven't done it since 1995 when I did the military version (same route, same day, but wearing boots and trousers with a fair amount of kit in a day sac). Only trouble I had was getting crag bound on Cregiau Hirion between C Dafydd and Llugwy reservoir, the good path was below me and to my right. Otherwise the route is pretty straight forward. It's a demanding event, save plenty for the Pyg track.

Edit: Just checked Vol 3 of my training diary. It was 1996, came 21st of 351 in 5:26.

I had forgotton about this little dancer - I did it in 95 or 96.

I will have to see if I have earned enough brownie points to escape for the weekend !

It will be good to do it again, and to run it proper this time.

Although the course looks straight forward on the map, this is a very tricky race to get round in low cloud.if you`re farmiliar with the Carneddau then you`ll know what im on about.from the Beras to the A5,a lot can go wrong.do not underestimate the nav,a bit of advice, take some pre race bearings from the Beras to the Aryg then to the main path on Grach then from Grach towards Llywelyn, from the path above the Black ladders (on Dafydd) to the crags above Llygwy and from Llyn Caseg fraith to the Miners track.these will come handy in low cloud.from the miners track its quite straight forward.

Fantastic race, done it a few times, years ago. Don't underestimate it. Nav can be tricky in the carneddau if the mist is down, and coming off Dafydd take care round the rocks - a runner fell off and died there last year I think it was. Eat plenty!!

Hiked it . got 4th in class . Ran it and finished (!) , marshaled it and made the papers!
Hardest race i've done so far .
First section crux 12.5 miles .Eat and drink lots and navigate over Carneddau correctly please !!!!
As people say practice this section - look for the old wall etc .Be carefull , someone died on this event just ahead of me .
I will be on Dafydd marshaling again like last year for hopefully less than 14 hours so say hi !
New checkpoint on way to Llewelyn as lots can't navigate their way that far esp the military !!!
Have all the require kit on board, a foil blanket may save your life and weights nothing. A proper survival bag could make the difference,.
If you see someone in distress please stop and help /phone for help.
    It can make a difference.
    Regards
    Pete BBC

Right, probably going up for a recce this weekend... I'm taking the family so will only have a couple of hours, whats the best bit to have a look at? I'm thinking the first stage past aber falls and onwards would be helpful.

Also any good campsites near the start?

That stretch is the trickier bit in bad weather, down to the A5. Can't advise on camp sites though as I was always stuck in Capel Curig.
