    Re: Three Peaks.

I heard him Iain but to be honest there were so many people talking when he was telling them about it that those at the back must have had difficulty in picking it up. So when it started they probably didn't know. I was about 10 m behind you(on the start line) and I could only just hear.

It was the 60 secs immediately before the off.
The most noise was off to the left of the start, so it may well have been a matter of where the loudspeakers were sited. Was a shame though.

It definatly wasn't a poor show but more a question of poor communication. I was near to IanDarkPeak and i could barely here the P.A.

Ian, you should take over next year and you wouldn't need a mic either..........

Yes - I am raising tonight - Tri Club Duathlon - it will by necessity have to be steady. Ian, did you do your 4 in 5?

Hmmmm I think its because I spent most of my younger days shouting to be heard above the kids. You know I'm quiet and shy really.

4 races in 5 days will be completed tonight at the SYRL 5 mile Actually it will (5 in 7 as well Hartcliffe Hill))

"ignorant"? I was stood near iainr and was completely unaware that there was a minute's silence until I just read your post. I hope people weren't offended, but I, for one, had no idea.

Yeah that was where I was. I was right under the left hand pillar on the start line. Noone around me seemed to be aware of anything going on, I was saying hi to people and then had a brief chat with crow hill, that must have been right in the silence then, because I only got there a few minutes before the start.

Hope noone else was offended, we just had no idea at all. Must have looked bad because we were all laughing and joking but there was nothing intentional.

    Re: Three Peaks.

It was for Stan Bradshaw, aged 97, one of the race founders (and had run it 23 times) and for Peter Dugdale aged 76, the race winner in 1957. Both of Clayton le Moors.
There is a thread about Stan Bradshaw a couple of weeks back.
The programme says Peter's grandson was the youngest competitor in this year's race.

I'm not suggesting anyone was being intentionally offensive. Ideally, you need somebody to jump up and down on top of a landrover before making that sort of announcement. Putting my old fart's hat on, though, there is a modern tendency (last 20 years or so) for people to keep talking through announcements made on sometimes ropey PA equipment.
