I couldn’t provide it with one; as I too have not been paid.
What the hell, I’m just sitting here on a Sunday,
trying to put off today what I can get done on Monday.
    Reclining in my favorite deck chair, sunning my cancers;
    admiring God’s work in the world. Such beautiful plush clouds;

and the mower holds the gas can in utter contempt.

    Days

Each one is a gift, no doubt,
mysteriously placed in your waking hand
    or set upon your forehead
moments before you open your eyes.

    Today begins cold and bright,
    the ground heavy with snow
and the thick masonry of ice,
the sun glinting off the turrets of clouds.

Through the calm eye of the window
    everything is in its place
    but so precariously
this day might be resting somehow

    on the one before it,
all the days of the past stacked high
like the impossible tower of dishes
entertainers used to build on stage.

    No wonder you find yourself
perched on the top of a tall ladder
    hoping to add one more.
    Just another Wednesday

    you whisper,
    then holding your breath,
place this cup on yesterday's saucer
    without the slightest clink.

    Re: Today's poet

I like this one....a reminder not to wish our lives away....which I seem to do all of the time!

Our Asses Grow Wide While Waiting On The Right Time

We wait for time to come
and instead time has come and gone
we just smile and pretend that
we have nothing else going on.....
we tap our foot and twiddle our thumbs
while we wait on that one moment
when the waiting will be over

    and
    ...our ship comes in
    ...that one door opens
    ...our star rises
    ...they call our name
    ...we hit the jackpot
    ...the war is over
    ...interest rates come down
    ...history will repeat itself
    ...the invasion will start
    ...the mail arrives
...the check was in the mail
    ...election day results are in
    ...we get paid
    ...spring arrives
    ...the heat wave is over
    ...the rain stops
    ...our loan is approved
    ...breakfast is served
    ...the lights come on
    ...everyone leaves
    ...the music begins
...the radio plays that sad song one more time
    ...the Rolling Stones stop touring
    ...the pain stops
...that new issue hits the stands
    ...love arrives
    ...opportunity knocks
    And finally
    ...we can catch up
    ...making up for lost time
We creak as we begin to move
    Slowly at first
Realizing that by waiting any longer
Life will just pass us by
    The way time did
    When we ignored it
    Thinking things would change
If we just waited a little bit longer
Then everything would turn out alright
......And we must pause once more
To reflect how time has passed us by
As we waited on it to arrive

Aw MG I really love that last post, it really resonates with me at the minute...soooooooooo relevant....there are so many things we could all worry ourselves sick about/wish for etc etc which can detract from the lovely things that are happening in front of our very eyes...like NOW!.....lush, lush, lush! ......thanks x

simon armitage is walking the penine way reading poetry as he goes and asked for help organising various gigs

    see...

    http://www.thescaremongers.com/simon...nnine-way.html

the fell poets are hosting the Dufton gig on the 15th July ...this will include a poetry reading by armitage and some of us are camping the night...i am also hoping to do the high cup nick route as part of the day if possible, Harry, Hes, OW, Herakles, Stolly, Ndubya and possibly others are attending....the more the merrier! should be fun!)

    Herakles Muse.

    Your love of music,
    Enchanted verse and all things,
That resonate in this mans soul,
    Will always mean my thoughts,
    Spend their time on you,
    You must know my heart,
    Will always love you,
Eternally as i drift as stardust,
    Across the heavens.

    I like that MG.

Yesterday was a gardening day and it was beautiful just hanging about outside getting getting things tidied up.
