Thread: Broken Fibula

    Re: Broken Fibula

Managed to cycle to work today and it's my birthday so that seemed like a treat. I've had no after effects and I'm feeling like I'll get full mobilty soon enough. I was a little bit one-legged on the bike but I didn't feel too knackered which was a surprise - I guess you can't lose too much fitness in two months. I think I might try a jog next weekend - maybe a step too far but we'll see on Saturday !

Hey sounds like everyone is improving. Sounds promising to hear that people are getting half marathon pbs too! I was doing quite well but came down with a terrible cold this week which I can't shift! From feeling really positive about everything I am now feeling negative about things, I suppose I just want to get back to normal now. I decided to enter the Swiss Alpine marathon though so I now have 5 months to get fit!! I think my first trail race I have planned is the 15km in Hawkshead and I might enter a flat 10km next month to see how fit (unfit) I am...

Just wondered how everyone was getting on?? I have been running again for 2 months but now have problems with my hip...went to the physio and as my running gait has changed I have more/different exercises to do which is a pain. Anyone else suffered with other muscles etc other than ankle? My actual ankle hasnt given me any problems for a while!

My leg is improving. I'm still a bit tentative on the fells, particularly contouring and steep down-hills, but I'm getting more confident. My gait has also changed - I don't pronate anymore - and I've felt some pulling on the side of my thigh I think as a result of this. I'm doing Wild Boar on Saturday so we'll see how that goes!

8th months on I hardly about it at all - don't feel a thing and have been training on the road for the London Marathon and aiming for under 3:15 which providing all goes well will be done!!

After that I will be venturing back on the fells - have pencilled in the Flower Scar in early May for the first race back - really excited about getting back on the fells but feel nervous about the first steep downhill - haven't done one since I broke the leg coming off Wansfell - messing about on a family walk of all things! This will be more of a mental challenge than anything else - hopefully confidence will improve as I get back in the swing.

Reading some other stories feel very lucky about how things have worked out - the only advice I can give is not to rush things listen to what your body is telling you - and keep working away!

    Good luck!

Yeah it is strange how everyone is different, my orthotics seem to be making a difference and hip isn't as bad now (probably similar to your thigh, similar part of body..) but for me I now find running in the hills alot easier than running on the flat roads! I have noticed a big difference in my feet lately which also sounds strange but they seem alot more flexible so once this hip pain has gone I think I will be back to normal. Mid May will be the 6 month point for me so aiming to be 100% by then :-)

Good luck with the sum 3.15 marathon I am sure will do well!

    Re: Broken Fibula

Well I have just gone and picked up a spiral fracture of my fibula. Did it yesterday and got a cast on it today. The above is a good read. I am absolutely gutted, as I was flying after runing 2.35 in the VLM this year. I was really looking forward to getting back on the fells in Autumn, but looks in doubt now. I am going to buy a stationary bike and try to maintain some of the fitness I built up. Did anyone else do this? Recommedations? Would a road bike with rollers be a better idea?

Hope everyone above is recovering well.
