Conventional wisdom then on the organising committee was that after 2004 numbers would continue to decline, but instead the race has regained and now surpassed its previous popularity:

    2005 340
    2006 363
    2007 459

    And rightly so?
Possibly an even bigger 'hooplah' in store next year with the WMRA dimension being added. 500+ finishers do you think next year?

Is there enough tape in the world to mark out a 24 mile course?

I think the best thing about the PPP is that it is deceptively harder than it looks on paper; a magnificent sucker punch at the end with what looks like an easy stroll down to Horton often turning out to be anything but.

I will be very interested to see if Mr. Jebb can hold off the overseas challenge next year.

Keeping Henegan and Taggart at bay will be a challenge too.

And does Joe Symonds do long races? Certainly doing the business at short ones.

Clodhopper, I've had my magnifying glass out and I believe I've discovered your svelte form ascending Pen-y-ghent.
If you were wearing a yellow top and blue shorts, you're on our PhotoBox site, pics threepeaks3766 (5th from front) and 3769 (4th from front). Hope I've got the right man. You can see them at http://www.photoboxgallery.com/grough.
By the way, I'll be covering the 62-mile Fellsman Hike this weekend, in which Mark Hartell will be going for the record number of wins. Anyone else competing?
I'll also be one of the checkpoint staff at Yarnbury, the last checkpoint before the end, so make sure you make the distance and say hello. I'll be the one with matchstalks holding open the eyelids after 20-odd hours radioing results in.

    3 Peaks 2008

    This just received from Dave

Next year (2008) the Three Peaks Race will be held on Saturday 26 April and will incorporate the World Long Distance Mountain Running Challenge as well as being an English Championship (long race) counter.

The Three Peaks Race Association are very keen to promote the event as widely as possible particularly to attract a strong overseas entry.

A brochure (five pages colour in A5 format) has been produced to provide an overview of race information and provide an introduction to the three peaks area as a tourist attraction.

It is intended that these brochures will be distributed at overseas events.

If anyone is intending to visit an overseas event as competitor or spectator and would be prepared to take a few of the brochures would you please contact David Weatherhead (tel: 01535 273508 email: [email protected]).

The brochures could be distributed as you think fit e.g. placed on the race registration table, handed to the race organiser, handed to leading runners, left at sports or running centres, etc

Additional information is available on the Three Peaks Race website www.threepeaksrace.org.uk.

Watch out for more information as the event will provide a full weekends entertainment for everybody.

Last year the World Long Distance Mountain Running Challenge was incorporated in to the Pikes Peaks Race in America and this year the Jungfrau race in early September.

The course will be flagged and marshalled throughout and additional marshals will be required. If any individual can help on the day or if a club would like to take responsibility for marshalling a section of the course, please contact David as above.
