    I like this...makes me smile!

    As Sweet

    It's all because we're so alike -
    Twin souls, we two.
We smile at the expression, yes,
    And know it's true.

I told the shrink. He gave our love
    A different name.
But he can calll it what he likes -
    It's still the same.

I long to see you, hear your voice,
    My narcissistic object-choice.

Its been a while and I'm rusty. I have so much respect for poets that can express something so profound.

    Union

    Our bodies connected
    As one not two
    Your fingers grip mine
    Our thoughts are few
    Your eyes flick open
    A flash of blue
    The shock of desire
    Though no longer new
    This strength of love
    Remaining true
And I’m lost in that moment
    Knowing nothing but you.

Hope you guys enjoy Thursday evening. I'm not going to make it as it's a long way to come up for the evening. It'll be great fun I'm sure!

    Re: Today's poet

I've been reading back posts, (which has been brillliant) & saw a poem by RS Thomas which Alf posted. This took me back instantly 35 yrs to school in Swansea and I've spent an hour searching for a Thomas poem I had to learn called The Foreboding. Havent found it so have ordered his complete works in order to (Im a bit crazy like that..)

However, here is another offering -

    Pieta
    by R.S. Thomas

    Always the same hills
    Crown the horizon,
    Remote witnesses
    Of the still scene
    And in the foreground
    The tall Cross,
    Sombre, untenanted,
    Aches for the Body
That is back in the cradle
    of a maid's arms.

He wasnt the most cheerful of poets, old Ronald Stuart, but his poerty left its deep mark on a number of us young Welshmen.

And lastly there was the girl:
Beauty under some spell of the beast.
Her pale face was the lantern
By which they read in life's dark book
The shrill sentence: God is love.

Blimey Hes, if that's rusty!!!!!! A truly sublimed poem, you have so exactly caught, in a few so succinct lines, the essential essence, a wonderful talent, thank you.

How gorgeous is this.....beautiful...nice to see some original work on again, I am working on something myself but finding it a bit tricky!

Duncs I realy liked your choices of poems....DT its a real shame you and Stef can't make it but I am sure you will there in spirit, in fact, my plan B if the Armitage doesn't turn up will be to get the audience to read out fell poets poems starting with your travelogue!

Good luck you lot at Dufton with the Simon Armitage reading tomorrow. Post a report on here won't you?

Hope it's going ok for Simon so far, weather / fitness / blister-wise.

I managed to get tickets for the Mytholmroyd reading on 23rd July, stopping over on our way to Lakes for a weeks holiday.

I really must catch up with the thread, so may great poems to read as usual

I like R S Thomas as well Duncs and I find his poetry more approachable than Dylan Thomas for example which will probably get me lynched next time I step foot in Wales
I was reading somewhere he (R S Thomas) always regretted he couldn't write fluently in Welsh as he would have then been able to write his poetry in the Welsh language.
