Mizuno Ascend & Cabrakan shoes

I'm a "Harrier man" too, and I've got a pair of Ascends that I really like as well
they are a lot like a road shoe though, with a thick "blocky" sole, so no good for anything too technical, and the grip's no good for anything too muddy
I use them for more traily runs, especially if there's going to be a significant amount of actual road involved along the way

I would second that re. Ascends: superb for hardpack trail / gravelly bridlepath / forest trail etc with road sections, esp. if you have long distance to cover, but too much cushioning for rougher trails and steeper terrain, when I'd put on my Kanadias.

V comfortable, great shoe to take away on holiday for instance as an all-rounder.

"Not sure I'd fancy Wave Harriers in the snow DR, their one weakness for me is that they just cannot handle the wet.

Used the Harrier as my "road running" shoe last year in all the snow with not problems and around the trails , must admit they are also an older red model,which seem better quality than the yellow/orange ones. Keep looking invos but never inspired, even though a lot of people use them

Fair enough then - I've got the orange model. Love 'em, but as I say, I've taken a few tumbles after slipping in the wet. Bit of a sore point for me as the last fall put me out of racing for seven weeks!

I have a pair of Cascadia (yellow ones), found them to be a very comfortable shoe.

The only downside I have with them is they lack a little bit of grip on the steeper, wetter stuff.

They are more of a trail shoe than fell shoe so I shouldn’t complain!

Ey up Jodg,

Bit of a curveball, but I'm a huge fan of the NB MT840. Trail oriented with good cushioning but also suitable for the fells if its not too extreme. You could certainly Trunce in them for example. And I ran at Bradwell in them OK as well as taking them out on a few 16 and 17 milers around and about the Peak District. And they're only £50. I've got two pairs and they are absolutely brilliant. I like the Wave Harrier too, but my pair haven't seen the light of day since I brought the NBs home.

Are the 840's a broad or a narrow fit? I have some Harriers but find them a bit broad, I was also wanting something with more cushioning for harder trails so the 840's may fit the bill.

I've had two pairs of Wave Ascends and I think they're great trail shoes - when it's dry! I've used them in wet muddy stuff as well, but they're not great. If I ever manage to run again I'd probably look at the Adidas Kanadia which seem to have the same sort of cushioning, but better grip. Be aware though that the general consensus of the Kanadia is that they size up small.

They only produce the 840s in the 'D' width, as NB are one of the few brands that offer different widths as well as conventional sizes in their road shoes (although I think the new 876 for trails has a width option).

I find Harriers a broad fit all the way down the shoe. The 840s are a bit more snug for most of the foot before opening out to a nice roomy toebox. Very comfortable.

I have a pair of Wave harrier size 9 1 /2 they are to long for me ,anyone out there with a size 9 in nearly new condition who are willing to swap ?

Bought a pair of Wave Ascend 5's at the weekend, took 'em out for a test drive last night, an hour over hilly roads and tracks. Bloomin' marvellous! Really felt the more comfortable on the hard sections. Well chuffed with this shoe - an even better toe fit than the Wave Harrier.
