    Painful Knee

I seem to be carrying a injury and i am struggleing to find out what ecxactly it is.

The problem is on the outside of my right knee, when out running especially on the down hill's i get sharp pains on the knee along with shooting pains down the length of my leg.

I originally self diagnosed myself has having pulled or strained my lateral ligament, but following a trip to the local GP they are telling me that i have fluid on my knee. Not sure this would cause me pain on running downhill.

hoping that someone may be able to shed some light for me on what could be the possible problem and the pssible cure!!!

    Thanks

    Phil

Sounds like sciatica. Difficult to fix, often a result of wear and tear and a sign of getting old.

I did mine in the Leeds half last year. Lack of stretching beforehand. If it is the ITB, then you're laid up I'm afraid whilst the inflamation settles down. A physio can help (ultra-sonic treatment etc). Heat packs too (help encourage blood into the area and thus repair - or something like that). Stretch stretch stretch (you can tell those that have had ITB problems - they're the ones doing the one foot crossed over the other and lean to the side stretch before races!). Good luck.

Thanks WJR, a friend had trouble with his earlier this year, and thought i might have the same issues. After reading the aerticle it sounds as though this could be the problem, time to consult a physio therapist i think.. really missing getting out running..!!!

    Thanks
