    Filed mushrooms are nice... and plentyful this year, because of the strange weather we have had...

    up untill 8 years ago when i made a turn in my life it would have been a dream come true to come across a fly-agaric mushroom for myself. something i never did. however this week while on holiday in the lake district i not only come across 1 but 3

    I've found them growing on Holcombe Hill a few times.

    Haven't found any up here, but used to get plenty of parasol mushrooms , ink caps and ceps in the beech woods on Salisbury Plain.

    If you're going to try and you don't know what you're doing, eat half of the mushroom and leave the other half in the kitchen so the doctor has somewhere to start.
    I think it's the fly agaric that makes you feel a bit ill, then you feel better as it destroys your liver and then you die.

    Yours sound like field mushrooms, DT.

    Ta, bit of a give-away in the name, really.

    If you have any Polish friends, ask them. Mushroom picking is a national sport over there in Central Europe. Many moons ago during the Cold War, I used to spend nights kipping in East German forests and was frequently woken in the early hours by mushroom pickers, usually with a jolly cry of 'Hallo, Tommy, wie geht's, Kamerad?'.

    Saw one of them growing in the fields just south of Preston (a long time ago).
