Thanks everyone for your kind comments and also to Merrylegs. It is still a catchy tune and intriguing to watch and those glasses have a mind of their own.
I intend to make three changes to the second half of the route when I can walk it out probably next week. This is only to try and ensure you all have a level playing field because each year someone finds a slightly better route so the details on the route will change. Nothing serious though.

Is the Hebden Route more or less the same as the Calder Valley Round ? I have done neither, I just wondered if I could use the excellent route details/GPX track for MemoryMap etc on the Hebden website as a guide for the Calder Valley Round as I found the description of the CVR a bit confusing in places ?

They aren't the same, but they have a lot of the route in common. The Hebden has an extra bit at the start, and an extra lot at the end, plus a number of minor differences along the way. I believe the two routes have some common ancestry, but they have evolved into separate species. It's pretty confusing when you know both routes - I can never remember which variation belongs to which route.

    The Hebden

Has anyone done the Hebden (shorter or longer version)? To be held on 22nd January 2011. I suspect it's very tough, but there will be home-made apple crumble and custard afterwards. A better incentive than any amounts of T-shirts, medals etc in my opinion.

Done the long version the last 3 years, great event and great food all the way round. It's as tough as you make it, go at your own pace and enjoy.

It's like the Calder Valley Round on steroids.

A great event, highly recommended. The organisers let you swap between the long and short and options, so if you're feeling knackered as you drop down from Blackshaw Head, and don't fancy the climbs up Stoodley and in Cragg Vale, you can decide to jog back along the canal.
A word of warning: enter early. It's very popular and people are turned away on the day every year.

    Re: The Hebden

I'm now really puzzled, because I took my own advice and went to Sportident to enter The Hebden. When I looked at the entry list, my name was already there! Is something paranormal going on? Is my memory going? Or have I been a victim of identity theft?
