I'll leave Zlod to reply to this in more detail but appearances must have been deceptive. I don't think either of us felt as fresh as daisies. You might have been mistaking us for Morgan Donnelly who really did look as though he was out for a gentle Saturday afternoon trot around the hills.
We got into the lead around Angle Tarn, extended it over Scafell Pike and then just kept plugging away over Coniston Old Man.
A great race - as has been mentioned above the checkpoint teams did a superb job in rather harsh conditions.

Ah so that was you who waved and said hello Bill! Couldn't identify you that far away and thought it was Jon Broxap. Yes Martin and Tom were well in the lead at the Old Man. They took the lead at about Stake Pass.
I felt very stiff on sunday. That fast road run from Wrynose didn't do the legs any good methinks.
The egg sarnies went down a treat. Must remember that for the next long outing.

It's definitely the egg sarnies that do it for me. Heading up from Cockley Bridge we went a bit awry - too far left but at least there was a pair who followed us. We corrected it but then noticed Jon Broxap going to the left too but overtaking us and he seemed to have a good line, so have to have look at that one. A brilliant day. Thanks to Arthur and all the organisers. I think I agree with Geoff - it's my favourite too. I think Grouse enjoyed himself too.
Thank goodness we didn't have Sunday's weather on Saturday. Went for a walk up to Crinkle Crags with the family - it was gorgeous! My wife very kindly loaded my 'sac up with 3 waterproofs, 3 fleeces, 2 water bottles & some food. I presume she thought she had to slow me down as usual - she didn't - I couldn't keep up with my 7 year-old!

Well, how do you put it in words?? That was my first heavy endurance event ever and I enjoyed all of it..... The Swarm of locust on dollywagon, attempted re-location of privates at wythburn, Hallucinations near scafell, injuries at great moss, Ibruprofen overdose at coniston (Not to mention the extreme checkpoint keeper..... gnarly!), Foot slapping speed on wrynose and finally the sprint finish needed in order to keep place. Thanks to everyone involved and everyone who competed, you shone.
The after-pain is more than justified!

Sorry, I have an extremely elongated stutter:-)
I wouldn't believe everything Compo says. Just coming off Coniston Old Man, he said to me "I feel totally strong, I feel I could run forever". At that point, I knew that the last 6 miles were going to be painful! Tom was a star and had the right motivating words at the right times.
There is a race report on the runfurther.com website (although the Old County Tops isn't part of the Montrail series).
Jon> I looked at the Pacer Poles in Lakes Runner. They are certainly interesting. The carbon fibre poles seem significantly lighter than the Aluminium ones. You reckon you can go uphill faster with them then?
