    Pins

I forgot to mention, comming from WBC I passed a lady with a long pipe who said she was doing some hydraulicy studies.
Later at Edale I got chatting to a bloke while waiting for the train to Marple and it turned out he was part of the same team.
These pins that were mentioned earlier in the thread (of which I saw loads)
are biodegradable and are used for pinning down netting in an attempt to get the cotton grass to grow on the exposed peat.

The pipe the lady had are being sunk into the ground to measure the water table on the hill. Basically they want to keep it
wetter as that binds the peat together better than if the peat is too dry.

The water companies are one of the main groups fiancing this work as Mrs Smith wants crystal clear water and peat errosion
darkens the water, resulting in massive costs for the water companies to get it clear again.

So it is a case of protecting the environment and business interests are not in conflict!!

    Was it "The Missus"?

I've seen no sign that the pegs I pickup are biodegradeable 5 years old in full view of the elements in acidic peat. I expect there to be some signs of going brittle weathering. Are they the same ones? 21 cms ish 3cms thick

Mrs Smith just a joke (common name)
Those are the pins all right with the serrations (obviously to keep them in place). He was a bit sarcastic about the bio degrable nature of them all right reckoned it would take at least 10 years

I feel a total wimp for saying this but I have withdrawn my entry - as it looks like the roads may be problem - the plan had been Suffolk/Huddersfield/Marsden/Edale/Ambleside and I think this could have been a miserable and tiring day for my partner. I have let Clair know so there is at least 1 place on offer, assuming there is a waiting list. Believe it or not I actually like running in snow!

Thanks all for the info about 'skew bridge' - that's cleared that up.

Hope everyone has a good race.

I will echo that I assumed skew bridge was the little foot bridge over the reservoir which would have ruled WBC out!!
