    Mother to Son

    Well, son, I'll tell you:
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
    It's had tacks in it,
    And splinters,
    And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor—
    Bare.
    But all the time
    I'se been a-climbin' on,
    And reachin' landin's,
    And turnin' corners,
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So, boy, don't you turn back.
Don't you set down on the steps.
'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.
    Don't you fall now—
    For I'se still goin', honey,
    I'se still climbin',
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.

Ooooo baby its cold outside...well perhaps not THAT cold....

    A whisper of spring

    Shrinking away from me
    My duplicitous friend
    You turn your body up
    a centigrade or two.

    What was once bold
    Is saddened,
    by footfall, cussing
    and the insidous grey.

    Under the veil of denial
    I am somewhat disorientated
    by your now evident
    dis-integration.
I even slipped a few times
trying to make out the boundaries.

    But now, FINALLY
    My feet hit the floor
    In some semblance of normality
    and exhaling
into a forgotten sense of balance
    Here is my wish...

    that molecule, by molecule
    You will evolve
    into a whisper of spring.

Very good that freckle but I think I will get Christmas out of the way before I start listening for a whisper of spring (nice though that line is )
