    Re: internet providers

I have found they are all as bad/good as each other.

Having used or supported users on half a dozen ISP's they are all much of a muchness.
In the majority of cases unless you have cable (NTL/Virgin - hopefully customer service has got better ) the broadband will use the BT backbone - which as Marvin has found, in the case of problems they will be difficult is they want and play you off against your actual ISP.

I did get a good deal out of BT when I switched from Orange (as their (Orange) tech support was condesending and feeding me utter tripe ), free wireless access at their hotspots (usefull when the 3G card gets crap reception in the Lakes ) cheaper rental etc.

    It's a lottery...good luck!

Onetel charge me for calls I don't make and an internet service I don't have. Continually. Then refuse to admit that their "automatic billing system" might be at fault. Then refuse to get the supervisor. Then pretend that they can't hear what I'm saying to them and hang up.

Avoid them at all costs - they are nothing short of criminals in my opinion.

Do not EVER EVER EVER go with TalkTalk.

Virgin is a good bet, but check out this site first and make your own mind up

    Re: internet providers

    Hello,

We've gone with Orange/Wanadoo. Absolutley no probs over the last 2+ years. Doddle to set up the wireless connection too (as long as you request a livebox).

On the otherhand, we have BT Broadband in the office and, although the line is OK, if anything goes wrong then they're bloomin' useless. We had a mad stormy week in Feb this year and all BT lines went off. When they did come back on it took 'em best part of 6 weeks to sort it all out.

As has been said previously, they seem pretty much of a muchness and all have horror stories.

Hope I never need to call Orange/Wanadoo support!

There you go, now I've jinxed it....!
