Just to add you mention on the linked blog that you will not being doing the start loop - does that only apply to the full not the half?
Not sure what you mean; I think the start loop is on both races, I'm just omitting it because it' a bit pointless and will save some time for exploring the tricky stuff. We'll do the rest of the half trog as that covers those last few checkpoints of both races.

oh yeah that reminds me - there's a confusing bit in the marked route for the final stretch on the 'official map' on the CVFR site. It looks to me like it's giving three alternative routes to get from the Wood End CP to the finish?

Any views on which one to take?

Or does it somehow involve the Start - I was thinking from looking at the map that you started straight off north-westwards, past the reg / finish point and onto CP1?

No, you start heading south. Have a look at the start and finish maps on the website - makes it clear.

Start is a manic downhill sprint before the congestion of the clough. Bananas really, given how long the race is.

That's fine and everybody is bunched all through that loop, unless you did it but came up the finish route back to the mill just so newbies could see what a pig the finish is , then do the rest of the half. But pretty sure that the loop is not part of the half course. Can a stagger clan member confirm for completeness please.

No, you start heading north on the Half Trog. Have a look at the Half Trog maps on the website - makes it clear.

The Half Trog starts up the hill (North).
The Full Trog starts down t'hill (South).

The finish is a difficult one. Think Ive done it three times and gone wrong at somepoint everytime.
But yes def save a bit for that last steep section.
You really need to take plenty of food on board as this one is a slog and then some.

Very well organised. A recce is a good idea. Last year or year before it was a trudge through the snow. Remember falling over seven times. Dont forget to visit all the checkpoints.
