There was some serious water up there today but Graham Pearce still managed to get round in 2:37 to win for the third time.

I managed seventh in 3:02 which was only seven minutes quicker than I did it in training three weeks ago but it was certainly less swampy then and the wind today didn't help in the first half.

That was my 6th Rombalds today and I've never seen it like that before. Found it tough going as far as Piper's Crag with a couple of tumbles in the bogs. After that it was much more runable and even enjoyable.

Big relief this morning to find the weather forecast had been right and the wind had dropped significantly from last night. Had it been at those sort of levels, that really would have been tough.

I managed 3:41 which I was pleased with given the conditions. Found it tough going though just after Burley woodhead feed stop. Not really a lack of energy but more incredibly tight legs for some reason.

Managed 3.51 - bit disappointed with this, but must be put in context that this was the longest run I've ever done at all and the fact that I died after the Burley Woodhead checkpoint.

Was a bit ill afterwards - 2nd time this has happened to me - must be something to do with running long distances at a pace (previous time was a 20mile road race).

Rob - apologies for being a bit brusque - had just been sick and was looking for clubmates!

3.20, pretty pleased with that. Great trog round today, really enjoyed it. Antisocial, I pressume it was you I saw with the dog with boundless energy ? Could have done with some of it.

Well, I 'plodded' round in about 5 1/2 hours! Mind you, I always intended to walk/run it, no way I could run all of that! As a benchmark for getting round the Fellsman, it's on the right track. I take my hat off to all you speedy guys who can do it in under four hours.
I got a bit misplaced at the top of the chevin, and confused at Coldstone Ghyll; thought the self-clip would be on that post going up the ghyll, in reality it's a good bit further on. Oh well, I'll know for next year.
Enjoyed it, all the same, and still plodding at the end so that's a good sign.

No worries mate, When I came in I spent ages lying on the floor with really painful burning legs so any effort to say hello to me then would have resulted in a similar response. Longest run I've ever done too, and I died at the same point you did. Felt better after pie and peas though

Well done Jez! is that your official time as well? Good going given the godawful conditions. My Garmin read 3:26 but that didn't include feed stops as I forgot to turn auto pause off

It was pretty wild wasn'tt it

I did enjoy it but the last few miles were where I lost pace and missed out on hitting my target of 3:30 (I was on for it most of the way round) but I'm not that bothered really given that I hadn't run further than 16miles in the build up to it. Those extra 6 were harder than I thought they would be.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone else suffer from extremely painful burning sensations in the legs that only ease with movement, specifically after doing a run longer than you've done before (or close) with quite a fast finish. I'm thinking it's down to lactate removal, I know the body reduces the acidity in the cells somehow and I'm wondering whether this continues after stopping and over-compensates, resulting in a high alkalinity instead, hence the burn. I've experienced it twice before now, both times after very long runs with a fast finish, and it's seriously painful.
