Can someone recomend a good place to get some pics? The best spot would be somewhere I can get ascent and descent pics of runners. I don't mind running between spots but I don't want to trek miles from the road.

Around Mam Nick probably a good spot, you could head up to MamTor (5-10 minute walk) to get people coming over from Lose Hill, or as they head down the path to the road at Mam Nick. Alternatively you wander up the trail on the other side of the road and take photos as runners head up towards Lord's Seat.

Ringing Roger, get pics on the slog up the hill at the start, retire to the Nags Head for an couple of hours then head back up and get them on the way down.

I would agree that Ringing Roger would be a great place. This youtube clip gives a very good idea of the type of picks you can expect

That's excellent advice. I was going to run the race, but now I reckon I'll just bring a camera.

I had completely forgotten!! That settles it, I'm coming up on Saturday night, provided that the rate of repair to my ankle continues (failed to get round the block on Sunday, did a couple of miles this evening).

Most will be out for 4-5 hours, it is still March and the last bit from Brown Knoll to the end is pretty exposed if you are tired so dress accordingly, ps don't forget your phone

Instead I think I'm going to go and do the rescheduled Thirsk 10, for which I've also got a number from last year when it was cancelled. I fancy a faster road run I think. All the training that I've been doing should have put me in reasonable PB shape. It'll also leave me a chance of having a go at a PB next week at the Wakefield 10k (club challenge race) as well if I feel like it. Although I'm not even enthused at this either.

Will make a final decision later in week - I take it that it's worth dropping Andy J an email if I don't do it in order to make his life a bit easier?
I would have dearly loved to have run this race, but, by the time my Calendar arrived, it was already full. I appreciate that most of the information was on-line at that stage, but I do feel that a race with such a very long pre-entry period really ought to consider having some sort of transfer scheme for the inevitable drop-outs.

I know that this is yet more work for the RO etc, etc ... but, really, we're talking about Dark Peak here who can surely provide the manpower for a substitution scheme.

Please give it a try next year?

I had a horrible race dream the other day. Set off with my wife, who is a bit of a jogger, got to CP1. Set off for CP2, noticed I hadn't put it on my map. Then noticed my bum-bag was falling apart and that the sports bag I was carrying had 4 pairs of shoes in it (a natty pair of brogues, some XC spikes, road racing flats and some others), a large bunch of bananas, a collection of bandages and some safety pins.

My wife decided to leave me behind and I withdrew from the race. Any analysts out there?
