    Re: Three Peaks Fell Race

Sorry to hear of the few mishaps.

I was really pleased today. Executed my race plan perfectly and took PYG 5 minutes slower and Ribblehead about 10 minutes slower and then ran the second half quicker than before and almost got a PB - probably would have but for stumbling on the top of Ingleborough which gave me my first and only cramp.

I had to walk off the top, take my secret weapon gel and some salt with nuun drink and I was back on my way and finished fine.

    Next stop Ennerdale hopefully.

Well done to all on what was a very tough day at the office, hot and sunny but mad wind as well.
To those that had to retire, gutted I guess, bring on next year's event I say!

Really sorry to hear that you weren't well MG and very well done for getting as far as that feeling so awful. I'm sorry to hear about the falls too. It was terrible on top of Whernside. I nearly got blown off of my feet loads of times. I actually had a cracking descent mainly because I couldn't wait to get out of the wind.

Not sure what was in my porridge this morning but I had a great run (for me), 4.30 (and 45 secs) and overtook loads of people going up and coming off of Ingleborough. I'll probably not be able to walk tomorrow though. It was a really brilliant race and so nice to see so many forumites there.

Big thanks to the organisers and the excellent marshalls. There were loads of them and it must have been really cold in that wind.

Sorry to hear about those that didn't make it. As for Whernside, the wind was pretty horrendous. Saw someone get blown over and I took an unintentional diversion into a ditch because of it.

Was all going great for me until Ingleborough when I got terrible stomach cramps. Not too bad on the way up but could hardly run going down, so finished well outside my target (of 4:30) in 4:50. Still pleased as it was my first time and I'm just happy to have completed it! Any other forumites around that time? Did you notice a young guy with long hair (and a blue headband) struggling down from Ingleborough?!

Congrats to everyone else that finished it, and a big thank you to the organisers. Thought the event was great, fantastic atmosphere and lots of people out to support. I'll definitely be back next year!

Bad luck MG, gutted for you, but put it behind you and crack on, these days happen and there's not a lot you can do about them.

4.30.44 for me pb by 2 mins so chuffed with that considering that wind, really enjoyed it though.

Well done Hes, cracking run and well done Steampig, also a cracking run.

Nice to see folks i knew and folks i just met, grand day oot:thumbup:

Oh and well done to Allan Greenwood getting round on less than adequate training and the fact his father has just passed away.

My only disappointment was buying a HH balaclava (no hats left !) & some 11-12 yr gloves to satisfy the last minute safety requirements. Only to find on the start line loads of people saying they had passed their kit check without said items ! However, I will use the balaclava next winter & my son has just turned 11 & will use the gloves. So I'll not complain too much.

Some cracking times today, many seemed to have done better than last year despite that wind. Well done to all (and you Jez).

Went for a much slower start than last year and staggered in at 4:54. After a bad winter with a torn calf, things are going in the right direction; almost an hour slower at Edale Skyline, 23 mins slower at Blubberhouses 25 and today under 10 mins slower than last year. It's a lovely run, but not one you can bluff about lack of prep.

I agree, I checked the website before setting off and they asked for wind/waterproof jacket and trousers, map, compass and whistle. No mention of gloves etc, but thankfully I had took mine anyway. The organisation other than that fact was pretty slick however and all went smoothly
