    Re: Three Peaks Fell Race

Well, we're just back from a great weekend in Horton. Arrived on Thursday for the pre race "preparation" in the pub. Great weather but the wind could have died down a bit!!

Really enjoyed the race, & took 7 minutes off lasts years time, finishing in 4.17.02, although until the Hill Inn I was well down on time, proving the race starts at Whernside, as I knew last year but chose to ignore!!!

I'm not going to get into a slanging match re: kit requirements, save for saying that if I'd had to withdraw on the top of Whernside, I reckon I'd have needed my hat & gloves to stay anything like warm on the way back down!

A big thanks to all marshalls & race organisers, a top quality event again. Special mention has to go to the fine lady at the top of the waterfall on Ingleborough with the big box of sour jellies. I can't even remember if they were cherries or strawberries, but by then I was sick to death of sweet stuff, they were ace!! I nearly detoured on the way back down to get more, so if it was you Thank You (ps what were they, I'm going to get some!)

Had a recovery walk up PyG yesterday, I think it was even windier than Saturday, but at least I had time to look at the view!

Roll on next year, 4.15 maybe???

I'm tempted to go back in a few weeks and redo it just to slay those demons. Can anybody recommend a way to get onto winterscales pasture as close to the race route as possible without upsetting anyone? (Stolly I'm looking at you)

ps, AS - don't even start

Just checked my split times from when I did the race last,2009.......everyone is within a couple of seconds the same......Ingleborough is exactly the same, but I was 2 seconds slower at the finish.Thought that dibber box was a bit further back this year.........

Instead of crossing the stream, carry on round through the farm and about 200m past the farm there's a path up to the top of Whernside that runs around 300m west of the race route.
It's on the OS and is almost the same profile as the race route.

It was at least 5 metres behind the line :O
The guy who just beat me by a metre was given "=467th" so "Lee Dunn - unattached" I'd just like to publicly congratulate you for out jogging me in to the finish

Why would I start, you are an adult responsible for your own choices. You trespass to your hearts content, potentially spoiling it for the rest of us - just don't forget your hat and gloves.

You can more or less follow the race route exactly without trespassing - its all open access. Or you can head further down and follow the footpath that runs straight up parallel to a dry stone wall - this takes you out to the left of the summit though on the ridgeline. (Don't listen to AS as he knows sweet FA about this neck of the woods ).

Hiya Steve, hope your back and crushed bits are recovered. I was interested in the stats too and have the same tactics as you ie, I run how I feel and I felt good on Saturday. Didn't fall (amazing...have been so clumsy lately). I've now got a throat infection so I'm chuffed that didn't kick in fully until Sunday.

Not really my tactics, tend to run how i feel, but set off steady, felt good at Hill Inn and pushed it from there. Ingleborough to finish was hard into that wind though and took a tumble near Sulber Nick, no cuts but a nice big bruise on my back today and my legs snapped together when i landed crushing my you know whats!
Hes's stats will be the same as she caught me at Hill Inn and was a second behind me at the finish, don't think she fell though and if she did she wouldn't have crush injuries!

I have been told by several forumites that you think you both own the dales and know more about them than anyone else - to the point that when you talk about this people have to put their ears to your arse to hear your clearly, are you confirming this to be the case?
