I can't think of many from the Welwyn Wheelers who made it to be honest - although there is Peter Bissell but he died tragically young. Bradley Wiggins used to ride for the team I left the Wheelers for Team Brite but they just poached everyone.

I'd love to race again to be honest, just been watching the Tour Series on itv player, but I'd need to lose about a stone and train like a monster!

Have you come across the coach/champion track sprinter Dave Le Grys Hann?

Legros as he is generally called, yes Donkey!!! Smokes like a chimney, awesome rider!

He does coaching sessions on the track in Newport, but never been to one as they are VERY expensive while my friends do it for free

Go on, give racing a go, you know you want to! Don't know how old you are, but lots of fun to be had racing LVRC races if you are older than 40

Legro used to coach me, just had a look at his website and he is very expensive (but very good especially if you're a sprinter) but he was the Team Brite coach. I'm pretty sure he's given up the fags now after puncturing his lung during a crash at the World Masters recently.

I'm 28 bit young for the League of Vets - fine races though they are! Gave up as a junior with it all in front of me. I then smoked, drank, partied, got fat, gave all that up and started fell running a year a go.

Sometimes I wish I'd stuck at it but I've done other things I'm proud of in spite of all the partying and I'm still young enough to make a decent go of fell running. These sportives have given me the bike bug back though!

You are still plenty young enough to give bike racing another go too Because you said you'd raced, I was assuming you were a little bit older Donkey, no offence

And as far as I am aware, Legros still smokes... well, he did last time I saw him and that was after his accident at the worlds masters track champs

No offence taken! You'd think Legro would learn after all that time in hospital!

A bit of a whiz up on Darwen Moor before dropping down for a pint with the boy. Fantastic.
