    Re: Today's poet

You can scour the internet for ever and never find a poem that fits but this one is, incredibly, just exactly me!

    Past, Present, Future

Tell me, tell me, smiling child,
What the past is like to thee ?
'An Autumn evening soft and mild
With a wind that sighs mournfully.’

Tell me, what is the present hour ?
    'A green and flowery spray
Where a young bird sits gathering its power
    To mount and fly away.’

And what is the future, happy one ?
    'A sea beneath a cloudless sun ;
    A mighty, glorious, dazzling sea
    Stretching into infinity.’

    Emily Bronte

(Er… well, when I say ‘exactly me’, that’s apart from me not being a smiling child obviously… and as for my past resembling a soft and mild autumn evening with a sighing wind? Sod that; more like the autumn evening in October 1987 when that storm hit the south east with a deluge of rain, wide spread carnage and 120 mph gusts of wind … and as young birds go, I’m no spring chicken. But apart from that …. )

This is a lovely poem Mossy and, like Freckle said, it will take a few readings to 'get' varying aspects of it but that's a good thing. I hope this is evidence of a little 'spring' in your step?

    deep purple greens
    of our love's lamb
    and you
    I adore and kiss
    your smell of love
    against the warmth of cheeks
    our own world on which
    we stand and see
    the mountains of our heart's

    and now we know
    to share for us together
    meandering meaning
    of our love's pattern
to behold - us as our's as one

Ooops, not much activity on here lately! Can't have that. I found a book of erotic poetry in a charity shop and its proving to be excellent bedtime reading. Was a bit embarrassing buying it because the volunteer was new and couldn't work the till so it ended up with three people inspecting my purchase. Now then....should I wait until 9pm to post?

Well, having just stuck a scalpel in my finger (was testing the end to see if it was a new blade...doh!) and bled all over my prints, the plaster is making typing tricky so I'll post one of the tamer and shorter poems from the above collection:

    Slowly, slowly
    we grow together
    skin across the wound
    of our separateness.

    One more....

    Descant

    Outside our bedroom window
in the dark of a spring
    rainy midnight
    a lone bird warbled
    its varied love song
    as if it knew what
    we were doing
    with our windows open.
It trilled on for an hour
in the middle of that night
    singing descant
    to my heart's melody.

    Re: Today's poet

Just had a few days over in the lakes and got very inspired at various times, I can see how it came so easy to the lake poets!!

    Blencathra
    The sentinel
    Aloof and proud
    Watching over those who pass
    Pass through the gates
    Through the gates to heaven.

    Lazing, gazing
up under the lush skirt of Latrigg
No finer river could they be
    No finer place than by
    The River Greta be.

    Or by the slopes
    nestled in the lea
    of Souther Fell
    Pretty Mungrisedale
    with its ancient mill
    tales of reivers
    and stories to tell
