Please would you specify the limitations? Thanks.

Something to look out for with insurance is that you are covered for competition. For this reason I have used snowcard.co.uk for the past few years when racing abroad.

snowcard is good ,about 30ish pounds, make sure you get covered above 2500 metres althoughwe only go above this hieght for a short while it is not worth the risk unless you fancy rolling down 200 metres with a broken ankle.my bag was checked on the way to the start line last year in the square . the water was wieghed and i did not have enough .i told them i always filled up at the fountain by the steps near the church.they were not impressed.after carefully packing my bag in the hotel then to have to unpack it in the crowded square and have each item checked offand then to have to repack with the thought of disqualification hanging over me left me more than a little flustered BE WARNED.The rule is you must leave the start and each check point with at least one litre of water, what you do with that water after that is up to you.

Cheers for the info. I will carry a litre out of each checkpoint.

So will I but it is a silly rule as some checkpoints are further apart than others, and the weather can have a big effect on how much liquid you need. Plus some people need more than others. If you don’t know how much liquid you need to keep hydrated you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place. This should be a guideline not an enforced rule.

What's the score with the spare bags we can access in Courmayeur?
Are we allowed to exchange kit, shoes, etc. and restock provisions?

Of course el m, otherwise there'd be no point to drop bags. In previous years they allowed us two.

I've seen the latest info email from them about drugs and drug testing. It makes me feel as though I'm an elite athlete like the TdF riders. If I'm not careful I'll be getting ideas above my station. ;-)

In the past you could put a drop bag in for Cormayeur and Champex, which was more comforting, especially if the weather conditions changed. But now you can only leave one for Cormayeur. It is a pretty robust 30 liter plastic bag. You can put anything (legal) in it (including footwear) except sharp things including poles, for obvious reasons. But chose wisely as from Cormayeur there is still approximately 59% of the course left to do (based on % times of the first five 2 years ago).

    Thanks for the replies.
I thought that might be the case, but I just wanted to make sure.
It is a shame that they've removed the drop from Champex - it does seem like an awfully long way from Courmayeur....

I want to do the UTMB in either 2012 or 2013. Does anyone know what are the odds of successfully coming through the ballot to enter, please? Thanks.
