    Turner Landscape

So who's up for the inaugural running of the Turner Landscape on 10th September?
A cracking route from Turner Hall Farm in the Duddon Valley, taking in Grey Friar, Swirl How, The Old Man, Dow Crag and White Pike.
Good campsite and a good pub, so all the makings of a splendid weekend in the Lakes.

All race proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Society.

I am looking forward to this event should I recover from the BG on 27th August. BUT would it not be more 'teasing' to have Brown Pike as the checkpoint after the Old Man so that competitors have to make a choice between direct or contour route. I am interested in the descent route from White Pike but have no details.

Having recced the route a month or so ago, I can confirm it should be a race well worth doing.

I understand from the organiser that there will be a final checkpoint by the old workings at 249962 and the run in will be 'flagged from the sheep pens' - I think that these are the pens on the intake wall approximately 200m W of the final checkpoint.
Brown Pike would indeed make life interesting - I will make the suggestion!

The reason behind the Brown Pike idea was not just because it poses a navigational conundrum BUT might have saved on marshalls and be easier for them too. Cutting out SH and Dow saves on a bit of awkwardness for marshalls but those don't add much navigational interest. Just 10 mins from Grey Friar to Swirl and a clear path. Dow on the other hand has a motorway. I discussed this with Steve (a marshall) of Long House, nr Walna Scar.

Sounds an interesting race, this. From the figures I'd assumed it was going to be similar to the Duddon medium race - a good race in it's own right - but Grey Friar takes it quite a long way further north. There are some interesting little bits of nav, but its basically a pretty straightforward route. A good one though...

    Looking forward to this race.
It will also be the last before I get married, so I will be having a few drinks at the Newfield. Some wild talk of visiting the pubs of Eskdale (inc meal) before settling in the Newfield again. Bikes appear to be the most popular mode of transport although a couple of non-drinkers will have cars. Runners welcome.

All set up for a cracking weekend then Alf!
We just need a bit of decent weather now - I will be sitting it out on Greyfriar.
