Brown Pike would indeed make life interesting - I will make the suggestion!
The reason behind the Brown Pike idea was not just because it poses a navigational conundrum BUT might have saved on marshalls and be easier for them too. Cutting out SH and Dow saves on a bit of awkwardness for marshalls but those don't add much navigational interest. Just 10 mins from Grey Friar to Swirl and a clear path. Dow on the other hand has a motorway. I discussed this with Steve (a marshall) of Long House, nr Walna Scar.
