Rashomon is also the subject of my favourite joke in the Simpsons:
the family have got a free holiday flight, Homer wanted to go to Jamaica, but they have a flight to Japan instead - Marge says "Cheer up Homer... you liked Rashomon", to which Homer replies "That's not how I remember it!"
I've not seen Rashomon but I've got two Kurosawa films - 7 samurai and Kagemusha - which are both brilliant
The Original Film of Solaris by Andrei Tarkovsky knocks the Clooney one out of the water even that is good. The film is truly deep. Also Hana-Bi by Takeshi Kitano is worth a look he is a cop with a dying wife all sorts of twists and turns but never fast Takeshi San never moves the camera a lot and his acting style is very much less is more.
Brilliant...the list is growing, thanks everyone!
I know someone who is obsessed by Kurusawa and I have enjoyed a few of his films including Seven Samurai, The Idiot and Yojimbo but haven't seen Rashomon or Kagemusha. I loved the George Clooney version of Solaris but found it really, really sad. The music is amazing too. I'll definitely have to watch the original.
Daz...love the Simpsons, it has to be the wittiest cartoon series.
With all this talk of the fantastic 7 samurai I feel It's only right to mention Zatoichi.
In Asda (oh, the shame)
Saw Terminator Salvation for 3 quid.....reeled in and bought it (even more shame)
Watched the film (total and unmitigated shame)
Wasted 3 quid. Looking forwards to my free viewing of Taken tonight!
Anyone caught Eden Lake? It's doing the rounds on ITV4 at the minute. Very dark and grim film, was a lot better than I thought it would be.
Watched The girl who played with fire last night. Again very good, though not as good as the girl with the dragon tattoo. Just got the final one of the trilogy to watch now.
Takeshi San version of Zatoichi is real good fun. Good choice eavesy187.
