Guess its the unwritten understanding - if you are the first person to get to the injured runner then they are your responsibility - and if it's a head injury you dont leave them until mountain rescue get to you.

Really the whole incident demonstrated complete comradery on the mountain - many runners wanted to stop and help and thanks heaps to the guy who helped me get my buff out of my bumbag as i compressed the injured guy's head wound so i could use it as a bandage - there have been many times i've seen a runner fall ahead and someone has got to them first - you ask if they need help and they say its in hand so you keep racing - but if you get there first, thats your job. Sounds corny but i was more than proud to do it.
Definitely still deserves fell running brownie points though. You could easily have passed responsibility to someone else (as too many these days unfortunately would do) but you didn't, you stuck with it and I'm sure the guy will have been extremely grateful for that. Well done.

Mind you there have been a hundred runners down the grass by the time I get there so it is always a mess!
On a recce today the grass bank starts at the main path at altitude 690m; the Red Burn crossing is about 50-60m to the right and the short cut path - which I think we came up - starts just after the crossing. It is far safer than the grass and I doubt there is much in it time wise at my level.

Hi Rob - cheers for the mention - I think with head injuries you cant really pass on the responsibility - the runner taking over wouldn't know the severity of the injury so it's not really fair to put them in that position. Also I would have worried for the rest of the race whether he was ok. I made the decision immediately upon getting to him and inspecting the injury. Once mountain rescue got to us and I was happy he was in good hands I set off to continue the race - only problem was I had seized up and couldn't run so just jogged it in.

Entries don't become available until usually January - you have to keep watching the website/checking this Forum and/or the SHR websites
