    Re: Todays Bike Ride

That seems very noble hanneke, I am in awe! Somehow that sort of science has little appeal when over 35 miles and in two hours of hill climbing frenzy you can nearly get blown off the bike by Hurricane Katrin, soaked by a rather persistent showers and suffered several close calls from idiot Sunday drivers for whom the lanes around Cardiff clearly resemble Monza and they are called Schummacher!
I am still alive however, this is good.

I am glad you are still alive, as I would rather like to go for a ride with you again one day... Preferably as epic as the Tour de Galles

I suffered hurricane Katrina like conditions yesterday afternoon... Actually, here in the Black Mounatins, it was worse yesterday afternoon than it was today... Obviously, as I had changed my riding and working days around to avoid riding on the hills with those forecast gusts of wind and rain... Ah well, I survived too and no silly drivers

Sorry hann I have no shimano tools.
You can you tube how to take your crankset off. It really is that simple. Honest it is.
The main problems with bikes are when people try and improvise with the incorrect tools( ie a chisel).

I think with Shimano you have to use the plastic tool to take that plastic cap off the crank arms then an allen key for the cranks then take the non drive side arm off. It will be stiff , just tap it with a mallet. Then it all comes out. Now just use the cup tool to remove the cups.
Clean out, re grease and put back together.
But you def need a torque wrench really.
Your going to see bike shops get more expensive in years to come. I can see a time when there will be set prices everywhere like at Evans,Halfords etc etc. And it wont be cheap.
Best time to try it is winter.
That way your not needing the bike.
You really need to have your chain set up with a masterlink. Sram, KMC etc which makes lift simple.

Start collecting your tools and they will last a lifetime.
Ive lost count of the number of bikies who say tools are expensive yet pay £5000 for a bike and wont fork out £30 for a set of cable cutters or pliers.

    Re: Todays Bike Ride

I shall have a Google Daz... I needed to take a compact chainset off my old bike and put its original 39/53 back on when I sold it and had to go t a mate with a bikleshop, as I needed 3 tools for one chanset and three for the other :-O

In the end, it was so stiff, he ended up doing it for me... I watched and because of the number of different tools needed, it seemed difficult.

I shall ask him if I can do the roadbike in his workshop under his guidance and ask him to show me, he is a good lad

I need my bike in winter, I am not intent on getting myself injured this year and will keep riding to try and maintain my fitness over the winter, so I have a better start of the season next year!!!
