Lakeland 100 - 2012

Been on these boards for a while but just getting into contributing. I managed to sneak into the 100 field at the last moment and am now looking forward to the start line come next year.

I did the 50 last year and have come back for the 100. I don't care where I finish within the cut-off so long as I finish - key point is to avoid being in the 50% or so who DNF...

Training wise I'm very much making it up but am looking to get back up to marathon fitness before Christmas and then plan to build up from there. Any tips from seasoned 100ers would be great to read

Have a read of Terry Conway's blog (this year's winner) a very down to earth, relaxed runner. I plan to set of relaxed, stay relaxed and see where it gets me, i'll be relaxed just getting round though, not relaxed winning like Terry. Also did the 50 this year and have entered the 100.

Yep, I was entertaining fantasies of a top twenty sub 30hr finish last time out - I ended up crashing and burning v. badly.
I too am going for the totally relaxed approach next year, hoping just to finish then i never need to do it again.
In fact, if I finish, I might have an OS map of the Lake District tattooed on my chest with a big magenta line marking out the route. Would that clash with an iron man tattoo, do you think?

Hi i'm in for the 100 this year. I've ran the 50 twice. my advice is to get out on the route itself as you'll find navigation on the day easier, you'll suss out what equipment you'll need and you'll get fit

Has the route for the L100 changed this year? Just watched some of John Kynastons videos of the route and bits of it dont tally with my route map from 2010.
1) on leg 2 they crossed doctors bridge on the way to Boot. My map shows you keeping to the left of the river Esk and crossing on stepping stones later.
2) on leg 3 they cross the bridge at wasdale. (we did this in 2010, but only due to the beck being flooded) my map shows you going around the back of the campsite on a trail then joining the road to the CP. They used the road then a trail to the left of the road into the CP.

1) Yes you cross doctors bridge.

2) Yes you cross the bridge and follow the road but unlike in 2010 you don't go on the road all the way but turn off at the corner by the next road bridge so you end up eventually coming over the packhorse bridge beside the Wasdale checkpoint.

Thanks Bill. Must be because they are more garanteed routes with the wet summers we have been having.
