    Re: Pennine Bridleway Relay

Can I remind runners about Rule 14:

"This is a bridleway and you may encounter horses and cycles on the route. Please slow down and give way and take extra special care around horses. Please show care and respect for other users."

As a check point marshal on this event, I have had to deal with two incidents, where runners have passed horses without slowing. On the first occasion the horse bolted, very fortunately without throwing the rider, who nevertheless was very badly shaken. On the second the rider maintained control but quite rightly complained about lack of consideration.

I think the rules require at least one team member to have carpentry skills

Personally Jim, I always do, but it would be nice if the riders, cyclists or walkers reciprocated. I find the "rambler" types particularly ignorant sometimes - not necessarily in races.

I think i'ts a good move by the R.O. to say the mixed teams now have to be man+lady on each leg......make team captains think about selection a bit more. See Accy have entered four mixed teams.

Only 1 rule 19 now...corrected, thanks for pointing out this very serious matter. Cant police the gps thingy....must have got a dozen emails from people last year who obviously had never done a fell race but owned a smartphone with a map on it !

Interesting to see that gps as a navigational aid are not allowed (fair enough), but you are allowed to carry or wear such devices to record your run. How on earth that could be successfully policed I have no idea

I'll volunteer to help if i can. I know we talked about this today, over at Halifax, but thought I'd get the ball rolling on this forum as well.

I probably can't help with this gate though; i seemed to get lumbered with running leg 2 and even if i don't then the logistics of racing a leg and marshalling that gate (probably for several hours) are too difficult to resolve. Provided i get on a later leg (e.g Leg 3 onwards) then i can certainly help out at the start or on Leg 1.

I'll be in touch either way.
