    Re: Tanky's trog

Sorry to hear about Tanky's condition, hope it doesn't get too much worse and he remains the character he is !

Also sorry to hear that the Trog will not be run, for whatever reason(s). A pity it didn't get to the big "40" milestone and beyond ...

Marsden to Edale is such a 'natural' route for a race so am glad that the 'Trigger' is on in it's place.

All the best for the Trigger y'all - wish I was there to give it a go !

    Watch out for Tanky's 2012

    Yours sincerely

    Clair Stokes
Just found this as I've been away for the last week.

As per an earlier post to Stanners I thought in the interests of Accuracy I'd just correct this.

I believe Clair is refering to Myself, Andy and Brent. Can I say that non of us has in any way been part of the organising team, the event is run by Nicky(a previous winner of the ladies trophy at TT), Steve(Nickys Husband) and RaceKit.

I too remember Tanky from his days when I ran my shop over the road on the Moor in Sheffield, I occasionally went over for a brew. I wish him well.

Thanks Ian. I think it was important somebody said that.

I didn't want to name names when I posted on Saturday (#1648) but the innaccuracies in the cancellation announcement made me rather angry and prompted my response. Clare's statement is incorrect in a few regards. my post was supposed to be a defence of sorts for those alluded to in it but it ended up as rather ambiguous after about twenty editing sessions. Had been considering deleting it...

    Ladies please.
Can we show a little respect for the effort that Clair has put into what would have been a very enjoyable event for many of us. Having read the statement more than once the bones of it are that the withdrawal of WMR support and the creation of the Trigger have resulted in this year's race being cancelled. Nobody is named and no names are inferred so I fail to see how it can be incorrect, it states 'some of' those involved and presumably it took more than 3 people organise Tanky's Trog. I will not be taking part in the Trigger and I know plenty who feel the same though I hope all who run it have a great day.

IMO there should be some on here who are embarrassed by their catty sniping both last year and this.

I'm not embarrassed by any of my comments. If you don't like it don't read it pal:wink:

Jack citing Woodhead Mountain Rescue as a reason is in poor taste to say the least. These guys put themselves in harms way for those of us who enjoy the moors. I for one am proud to support all MRTs. I suspect that there is far more to this than you or I will ever know. However, I will be running Marsden to Edale, this weekend, on the Trigger and many times in the future. I will also support MRT as long as I am able. This isn't a catty snipe, I don't do them, I run over the moors and I support those who keep watch over us.

It's not cheap running a mountain rescue team - just look at any of their annual reports - and they never charge a penny for the work they do. When you look at the great races in the Peak District (Edale Skyline, Downfall, Kinder Trog etc) and see the cover that gets provided by the local rescue teams (cave rescue too if you count Great Hucklow as a great race) you begin to realise what a fantastic service we get from these guys. We should all try to support races like Cracken Edge and the Trigger which specifically aim to raise funds for these teams - otherwise contributions, donations and "tin rattling" are their only source of income.

And when things go pear shaped on an event like Tanky's, and the moors need searching or somebody needs carrying down, it will still be teams like Woodhead who will do this (for absolutely nothing, and with a smile) even if they have "withdrawn their support", as has been suggested here. Because, for these teams, there is a level of support which will always be there.
