Missed your earlier post. Yes The North Face is an excellent film. I always thought 'The White Spider' was the finest book written on the Eiger North Face history but the excellent scene in the film showing the expanse of the Hinterstoisser traverse and the final scene illustrated the tragic predicament of Toni Kurz far more clearly than the book was able to do for me.

Saw Biutiful last night...gutwrenching, heartbreaking and Javier Bardem was fantastic. Not exactly one for cheering you up but it does make you realise how lucky you are.

I've not read the book but I may look into it- thank you.

Tonight I may watch "The Invasion" as it was going cheap in a local supermarket :w00t:

I've heard many a good thing about this film, though not sure I'm up for that style at the minute. Anyone seen drive yet?

Tonight's movie was 'Tom White'. Heard of it? No?? Thought as much. It was released a few years ago in Australia, and the main reason I bought it was that the title track and film score is by one of my all time favourite singer / song writers Paul Kelly. I don't think it got much if any exposure outside Australia. I don't think it got much exposure in Australia either. Tom White is a draughtsman, married with 2 children but slowly his world collapses around him as he suffers a mental breakdown. One day he finally cracks and decides to simply drop out of society. From here he goes on a journey into the underbelly of Melbourne and through the film each person he meets becomes a mini sub-plot exploring their world. A rent boy, a recovering heroin addict, a homeless tramp and a 14 year old graffiti artist. Nothing much good happens in any of these peoples lives. Finally he gets caught up unwittingly in the capture of a serial thief and after identifying himself as a person who has previously been reported missing he has to make a choice. To carry on in this world, or to go back home.

Wuthering Heights. Wind ravaged, pissing with rain most of the time, all mist, clag and peat bogs, cotton grass, lapwings and of course hill farmers swearing, spitting, coughing their guts up and spewing over dry stone walls . The only thing they got wrong was the rain - it was vertical in the film when everyone knows the rain is horizontal in Yorkshire!

    Best quote from the film:

"F*** off or I'll set the dogs on yer" (said by Hindley's little rag a muffin son, aged about 4)

sounds a bit like Mike Leigh's Naked which I enjoyed (if that's the right word) - will keep a look out for this one
